Chesapeake Bay Seasoning (Copycat Old Bay Recipe)
Chesapeake Bay seasoning may be known as a seafood lover's spice mix, but it's also amazing in vegan dishes. My homemade Old Bay seasoning can be made in just minutes and turn bland recipes into irresistibly delicious vegan dishes.
Prep Time 5 minutes minutes
Total Time 5 minutes minutes
2 teaspoons salt 1 tablespoon celery seed 2 teaspoons sweet paprika 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon ground ginger 4 whole bay leaves ½ teaspoon smoked paprika ½ teaspoon ground black pepper ½ teaspoon ground white pepper ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg ⅛ teaspoon ground mace ⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom ⅛ teaspoon ground allspice ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon Pinch of ground cloves
Add all the ingredients to a spice grinder. You can also use a small blender or food processor.
Blend everything together until it becomes a smooth powder.
Store the spice blend in an airtight container or jar and in a cool, dark place.
Adjust the spice level to your liking. For a milder seasoning, reduce or omit the red pepper flakes.
For the best flavor, ensure your spices are fresh. Check expiration dates and replace any old spices as they lose potency over time.
This recipe was inspired by The Daring Gourmet. I tweaked her recipe just a bit.
