Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder (ceremonial or high-quality culinary grade)
  • ¼ cup hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)
  • ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup, honey, or sweetener of choice (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Sift 1 teaspoon matcha powder into a small bowl or cup to remove any clumps.
  • Pour in ¼ cup hot water (not boiling). Then use a bamboo whisk, electric frother, or small whisk to blend the matcha until smooth and frothy.
  • Stir in the maple syrup or another sweetener to taste. Then add vanilla extract, if desired.
  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes and pour the almond milk over the ice.
  • Slowly pour the matcha mixture over the almond milk for a layered effect. Stir gently to combine the matcha and almond milk.
  • Enjoy immediately for a refreshing iced latte!

Notes

  • Best Matcha to Use: Ceremonial-grade matcha has a smoother, less bitter taste, while high-quality culinary-grade matcha works well for lattes.
  • Extra Creaminess: Use barista-style almond milk for a richer texture.
  • Nutritional Information: Nutrition values will vary based on the type of almond milk and sweetener used. This is just general nutrition advice and sources are linked in the article pertaining to the health benefits of matcha.
